What would happen to a liberal's mind if he subsisted entirely on conservative media and rhetoric? That's what critically acclaimed political humorist, NPR commentator, and McSweeney's contributor John Moe sets out to learn in Conservatize Me. We always hear that everyone in America is firmly planted in red or blue, that they're permanently conservative or irreversibly liberal. But are we all really that locked into the left or the right? John Moe, raised in a family of proud left-wingers and living in deeply liberal Seattle most of his life, sets out to determine if what we believe is based on environment or actual conviction. Moe puts himself on a strict conservative regimen: He resets his radio dial from NPR to Rush Limbaugh, goes head-to-head with some of today's most influential conservative thinkers for a series of "conversion sessions", and through it all tries to maintain a positive standing with his lefty wife and young but already liberal kids. Conservatize Me will strike a powerful chord with millions of disgruntled Americans ready for a fresh, humorous, and highly entertaining look at our country's political landscape. Will Moe end up getting a Dick Cheney tattoo and swearing loyalty to the Christian Coalition? Will he get a Dennis Kucinich tattoo and dedicate his life to cooking vegan food at protest rallies? Listen and find out. 1. Language: English. Narrator: John Moe. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/harp/001337/bk_harp_001337_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Foreign Trade Theory, Trade Policy, grade: 1,0, University of Bonn, language: English, abstract: This term paper will deal with the question how these anti-TTIP groups and contestants have managed to mobilize citizens to such extents as international trade deals are not traditionally on the public agenda. I argue that these organizations, such as Campact, Attac, and Mehr Demokratie, succeeded because they framed the issue in a way that struck a chord with the general public and the sensational online community which also tapped into existing narratives of anti-globalization and distrust towards the establishment, and because they made efficient and extensive use of new media technologies to spread these frames. The focus will thus be on investigating the different framing techniques and processes that were applied by the movement as well as its inherent structure and how these factors were combined with the use of online media in an effort to challenge the European Commission of the trade deal. With this combination of successful framing and use of online media they have managed to create an extensive base for protests against TTIP and CETA that has stifled the negotiations and final ratification for three years by now. In this regard, this paper will first elaborate on the different framing techniques that were applied by the protest leaders in light of existing narratives and discourses. Following, I will take a closer look at important NGOs such as Attac and Campact and protest groups such as Stop TTIP and TTIP unfairhandelbar [TTIP non-negotiable] and their successes in organizing and getting people onto the streets. Subsequent will be an examination of their use of online media and social media platforms that were employed to distribute these frames and mobilize the masses.

Ein schönes und surreales Video: player.vimeo.com/video/178103466 Natalie Mering, the being behind Weyes Blood, embeds her sublime song in a harmonic gauze of arpeggiated piano, acoustic guitar, druggy horns, & outer space electronics. Propulsive, spare drums carry us across the album s course. There is a faded California beauty to Front Row. A gentle honesty that recalls the finest folk music made on the West Coast of the 70s. The hue hangs in the sweet-spooky harmonies, the pulsing sway of the vibrato & the ecstatic chord resolves. But this beauty is scratched with shadow, with dark foreboding, alienation, & acceptance of change. Love & loss balance together in suspended alchemy, as the earthiness of the singer-songwriter tradition wears digital sounds like feathers in its hair. Mering, together with co-producer Chris Cohen contrasts live band intimacy with the post-modern electric sheen of A.M. radio atmospherics. The experimental flourishes sparkle amid the succinct, thoughtful arrangements. The closeness of this record - how personal, alone, & frank it feels - conceals its aspirations to the outside, to the Earth of its title. Weyes Blood harbors devastating weight while also universalizing the strange ways of identity & relationships. These are not typical love songs or protest songs -- they are painful, poignant riddles that celebrate the ambiguity of love & affirm the conflict of harmonious life within a disharmonic world. TRACKS: 1. Diary 2. Used to Be 3. Be Free 4. Do You Need My Love 5. Generation Why 6. Can't Go Home 7. Seven Words 8. Away Above 9. Front Row Seat
